Unfortunately for me, my Turkish friend did not show up in the morning before I left, even though I left late, around 8:30. So, I got all day to think about that special bread with cheese and what it actually is, a Turkish delight. Thankfully, Mondays aren’t always blue, this one came to my rescue. With a stash of chocolate bars that could rival a candy shop, I conquered the day one chocolate bite at a time.
The day started cold, like very cold. I put almost all of my clothes on but the cold wind just finds a way in and I could not warm up even with cycling. But ah, a stroke of luck! I stumbled upon the cozy embrace of a German forest, where the trees whispered secrets of warmth, giving me a break from the icy grip of the wind.
Since I was low on energy gels and needed something to keep my head warmer, I took a small detour in the first town to a cycling shop to get gels and a hat. It’s as if they had a crystal ball and preemptively cleared the shelves of everything I require, energy gels, hats, cycling gear, even the glasses. Disappointed but not disheartened, I continued my chilly adventure to the next town and luckily for me, they had Decathlon. The shop I miss the most in Denmark. Took forever to get there, going through the city, all the windy roads, holes on them and people just walking on bike paths if there any in the first place. This little maneuver cost me 51 years, or 2 hours on my planet. The good thing is I got really warmer after the visit and got myself an extra bag just for chocolate bars and gels. I hope I got enough for a day or two. I think I am never gonna financially recover from this, but that is my typical Decathlon visit.
After circling around the city due to my mistake of saying next, next, next, finish on my Garmin. It took me to route start instead of continuing where I am. So another little 51-year maneuver.
Finally, I got out of the city and decided to push for the hotel, just another 50 km or so. It was all good until I started seeing the mountains. Took me only three days to reach them, I was kind of hoping for more. The last few km I had the first real slopes, and finally got to try it fully loaded. Boy, oh boy, I think tomorrow I might just die. First serious climbing day with 1700 m ascent. Let’s see how far I make it, I still haven’t booked, guess I will when I’ve had enough. Time to do a bit of washing, let’s hope it dries by the morning.
